The goal of Farm in Baltimore County, Maryland lighting design was to render overlapping interior and exterior spaces visible after dark. A lighting concept of multi-layered space, featuring the building, landscape, and the farm owner’s extensive art collection, was developed to establish a strong visual connection between inside and outside.
Two refined modernist additions, one clad with glass and the other screened, contrast with the weathered character of the 19th century farmhouse. Discreet architectural lighting highlights key surfaces of this varied composition by selectively illuminating some building surfaces while leaving others in shadow. Light fixtures, often concealed from view, feature long lamp life for reduced maintenance and energy efficient sources.
