JHU Physics Building Renovation

Baltimore, MD | 2014

The Bloomberg Rotunda is located in the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University. Our lighting scope was initially limited to a hardware upgrade that would reduce energy usage and simplify maintenance, but the project evolved into a lighting quality upgrade as well. We sought to enhance drama in the space by adding integrated lighting details and focused lighting for the central telescope display. We also devised an alternate maintenance solution for the fixtures located around the perimeter at the top of the dome. These fixtures were previously only accessible from above, which made them difficult to maintain. The new fixtures can be serviced from below. Our work on this project also included focusing the lighting after installation.
